After a long wait and a tough battle, the government of India has finally decided to felicitate the country's greatest hockey star, Dhyan Chandb Singh, with a Bharat Ratna, posthumously.

The government revealed on Tuesday that it was planning to confer the country's highest civilian honor , the Bharat Ratna, to the late hockey legend.

It's heard that the home ministry sent several recommendations to the PMO tp consider Dhyan Chand for this year's honor. Now whether, PM Narendra Modi will honor the consideration is something that is left to be seen.

Speculations are rife over this year's awardees as the government has ordered five medallions from the RBI Mint. Two names that are being tossed around are that of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and of senior BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Ever since the Bharat Ratna was conferred to Sachin Tendulkar last year, there has been a growing pressure on the government to honor Dhyan Chand. Last year too, he was close to receiving the honor. However, the PMO decided to hand it over to the cricketing legend in the last minute, sparking controversy.

Will Dhyan Chand win the Bharat Ratna this year is something we better leave it on time to answer.
