Narendra Modi's chief aide Amit Shah was booked for a hate speech late on Sunday night. He had stated to a gathering that they must seek "revenge for the insult" inflicted on them last year, during the Muzaffarnagar riots in Uttar Pradesh.

Amit Shah, who is BJP's Uttar Pradesh in-charge for election campaigns, had on Thursday given a speech at Shamli, a city that was among the worst-affected areas of Western UP, in last year's communal riots between the Jats and the Muslims.

On Sunday the FIR was registered against Shah after the recorded tapes of his hate speech was examined by the Election Commission.

On Friday a police case was registered against Amit Shah in Bijnor for allegedly giving a hate speech against a community.

Shah was addressing a crowd of Jats, when he said that the Lok Sabha elections 2014 in western Uttar Pradesh was an election for honour, by seeking revenge for insults and an opportunity to teach a lesson to people who committed injustice against them.

The 50-year-old Modi aide was accompanied by BJP MLA Suresh Rana, who is booked as one of the accused responsible for inciting communal tension.

The Muzaffarnagar violence had resulted in the death of more than 60 people and displaced over 40,000 people from their homes in September 2013.

Umesh Sinha, Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh stated that an FIR was registered against Amit Shah based on a report. His speech in the Shamli rally violates the model code of conduct, added Sinha.

Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi termed the speech communal saying that the language used by Shah in Muzaffarnagar, a communally-sensitive area, was meant to incite people.

However, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the FIR against Amit Shah as vote bank politics of the UP government. He also called the FIR an abuse of police powers in the state.

Amit Shah is BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's trusted aide. He has proved his talent in helping the party to win elections. So Shah has been entrusted with the responsibility of Uttar Pradesh, where Modi will contest for his first Lok Sabha elections.
