Myanmar Army chief and Indian leaders to discuss on terror threat

Myanmar Army chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to hold talks with Indian leaders on possibilities of better coordination against Indian insurgents operating from Myanmar. On Tuesday and Wednesday Hlaing is supposed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

The talks are likely to focus on the common threat to both the countries from radicalised Rohingya Muslims. They may try to carry out terror to draw global attention to their cause.

A senior Indian intelligence official said, "ISI-backed terror outfits like Lashker, Jamaat ud Dawah and Falah-I-Insaniyat Foundation (FiF) have been hobnobbing with Rohingya community leaders and organizing jehadi training along Bangladesh-Myanmar border.”

Earlier, in an offer to humiliate Myanmar, Pakistan sponsored a resolution at the 29th session of the UN Human Rights Council, accusing "all violations and abuses of human rights in Myanmar, in particular against Rohingya Muslims".

Pakistan wanted Myanmar government to make sure that the Rohingya Muslim community is protected and to take measures to ensure accountability. Myanmar was urged to protect places of worship, make sure the return of immigrants, grant the citizenship rights to Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state, besides allowing access of humanitarian assistance to affected persons and communities.
