After losing the test series against South Africa, Team India had high hopes to bag the ODI series. The first ODI took place in Boland Park last evening and South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. South Africa scored 296 for the loss of 4 wickets in their 50 overs and set up a decent target for India. Chasing the target, Team India fell short by 31 runs and lost the first one-day international. India scored 265 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Rassie van der Dussen has been named as the Player of the Match for his knock of 129 not out in just 96 balls. Rassie van der Dussen (129 not out), Temba Bavuma (110) and Quinton de Kock (27) are the top scorers for South Africa.

Jasprit Bumrah (2/48), Ravichandran Ashwin (1/53) took the wickets among the Indian bowlers. Shikhar Dhawan (79), Virat Kohli (51) and Shardul Thakur (50 not out) are the top scorers among the Indian batsmen. Andile Phehlukwayo (2/26), Tabraiz Shamsi (2/52) and Lungi Ngidi (2/64) bagged the wickets among the South African bowlers. South Africa is now leading the ODI series by 1-0 out of the 3 ODIs. The second ODI will take place tomorrow and the final ODI will take place on January 23rd. Team India will play a series with Sri Lanka after their return from South Africa.
