Director Rajamouli's magnum opus, Baahubali is in hot waters and how?

The film's producer has received a legal notice from a Karnataka-based Jain Mutt protesting against the film's title.

Bahubali is revered as Gomateshwara in the Jain pantheon. Bhattakalankar Soudha Swamiji Mutt, based in Uttara Kannada, has slammed a legal notice, claiming that the film's title is against their religious sentiments.

"Lord Gomateshwara is worshipped as a beacon of peace and sacrifice. But the trailers of Baahubali have been very violent and showcase the character sporting swords, fighting and making many aggressive gestures which fly against the tenets of the religion. As a peace loving community, the film's trailers have hurt the sentiments of the community, which fears the story of Gomateshwara is being portrayed in a bad light," shares advocate Nagashree, who sent the legal notice, adding, "If the story of the film is based on the story of Lord Gomateshwara the community wants to prohibit the filmmakers from doing so."

Shobu Yarlagadda, producer of the film, has however, refuted all claims. "The film is based on a fictional story and is not inspired by any text, religious or otherwise. I haven't yet received the legal notice, so cannot comment on it as of now. But I would like to assure you that our film is not against any community or religion," said Shobu.
