Over 100 Killed Due To Heavy Monsoon Rains In IndiaTop Stories

Heavy monsoon rains in India take more than 100 lives and has affected lakhs of people. The ruinous floods continued in the eastern states and the northeastern states of the country. The most affected states include West Bengal, Manipur and Odisha.

For relief and rescue operations, National Disaster Response Force teams were rushed to Manipur by the Centre following death of 20 people due to a landslide on Saturday. Heavy rains resulted in floods and submerged several villages of Chandel district.

Heavy rains in West Bengal

National Highway 60 was washed away due to heavy rains and floods in West Bengal. The major flood was caused due to the breakage of a dam by 30 feet. Heavy rains are being observed  in south Bengal succeeding landfall due to Cyclone Komen in Bangladesh. Districts like Howrah, South 24 Parganas and Midnapore have seen at least 48 deaths, while 7 lakhs people were affected. Many parts of Kolkata are still under knee-deep water.

Floods in Odisha and other states

Massive floods in Odisha affected more than 4 lakh people. According to the Met department, the Cyclone Komen provoked the flood situation and water that entered North Odisha from Bangladesh flooded about 20 villages. Additionally, heavy rains had worsened the situation.

Himachal Pradesh is continuing to see the rage of the floods due to landslide in Kangra district besides heavy rains. Floods killed four people in the district and several cattle till now and drastically damaged property. Around 16,000 cattle died in Gujarat due to flooding and heavy rains. The havoc is continued in Rjanthan too, reporting 28 deaths so far.
