Capt Amarinder Singh cancels Canada rallies

The president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Capt Amarinder Singh has dropped his plans to hold political rallies in Vancouver and Toronto after the request of Canadian foreign ministry. Now, Singh will be addressing the Punjabi diaspora during his six day visit to Canada, begin from April 23.

Indian foreign secretary Dr S Jaishanker informed Amarinder over phone, that Canadian rules do not allow foreign government and individuals to hold political campaign in Canada.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh said that, "Since the host country does not allow such events, I thought it was better to cancel these. I would however look forward to meeting my fellow Punjabis in their homes and small groups to ensure the compliance of the host country's laws".

He started his visit to United States and Canada on April 19. Singh is scheduled to visit Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago in the United States, while Toronto and Vancouver in Canada.
