Omicron Scare: 51 Foreign Returnees Under Lens in India

The Omicron variant of coronavirus left the entire globe scared. The variant is now present in more than 30 countries of the globe. The Union Health Ministry already revealed that two cases of the variant are traced in Karnataka and they are kept in isolation. All the international passengers reaching the country including the Indian citizens are thoroughly screened in all the airports of the country. The Centre also issued strict guidelines and they are implemented from December 1st strictly. 51 passengers who came from high-risk countries of the globe are tested positive for coronavirus after they arrived in India. All these passengers reached seven Indian states and their samples are sent for genome sequencing for the concerned laboratories.

Most of these passengers came from African countries. Among these, nine each are from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. 13 people are tested positive in Telangana, two in Tamil Nadu, one in Gujarat and eight of them reached New Delhi. Most of them had mild symptoms of coronavirus. All these are kept under scanner and in isolation. Thousands of people entered into the country in the past two weeks after the Omicron variant was traced in South Africa. The Union Health Ministry is trying hard to get in touch with the passengers and inquire about their health situation and the primary contacts they are in touch with. All the Health Departments of the states are kept on high alert and special screenings are conducted for the international passengers.
