The third wave of coronavirus calmed down in India and the country is under recovery mode. Now, the first case of coronavirus XE is reported in Mumbai as per the reports from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The media release also told that a case of Kappa variant is reported in Mumbai. These patients who are carrying the new variant are not showing any severe or serious symptoms of coronavirus. The reports said that the new mutant is more transmissible than the recent strains as per the reports from the World Health Organization's report that was released last week.

The investigation about the XE variant is going on and the Union Health Ministry sought a report from the BMC at the earliest. The patient had a foreign travel history and the patient's sample was kept for genome sequencing along with 230 samples. Among the 230, 228 had Omicron variant and one was detected with XE and the other with Kappa told Suresh Kakani, the Additional BMC Commissioner. The patient is a costume designer and returned back from South Africa in February. She was tested positive for coronavirus on March 2nd. This new strain is detected in United Kingdom this year. XE is said to be a mutation of BA'1 and BA.2 strains of Omicron.
