Putin's ally proposed to ban ICC in Russia March 25, 2023 17:54

On Saturday, the Russia's parliament speaker proposed to ban the activities of ICC (International Criminal Court) after the court as issued a warrant to arrest President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of war crimes. Vyacheslav Volodin, is the ally of Putin's, told that Russian legislation should be amended to prohibit any activity of ICC in Russia and to punish any who gave "assistance and support" to ICC. He added, "It is necessary to work out amendments to legislation prohibiting any activity of the ICC on the territory of our country." He also said,"US had legislated to prevent its citizens ever being tried by the Hague court and that Russia should continue that work."

Narendra Modi, India's Prime Minister held talks with the Japanese PM Fumio Kishida on monday. They both discussed on the Chinese military and economic assertiveness in the region of Indo-Pacific and also made talks on the challenges that both of the nations facing. Fumio Kishida said that India as an “indispensable” partner for Japan and announcing a new plan for a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP) which includes Japanese investment to the tune of $75 billion for the development of infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region by 2030. Further going into the talks, India and Japan as been decided on the ties in the defence and security sectors. In this discussion, including the defence equipment and technology collaboration encompassing co-design and co-innovation, trade and investment ties, development finance, health and digital partnership, people-to-people ties, food security, climate change, skill development and reliable supply chains in semiconductors and other critical technologies.

Adani Group of Companies which witnessed huge growth in the recent years has tasted a huge leap and downffall. The shares of Adani Enterprises plunged by 28.4 percent and the group announced that it called of Rs 20,000 crore Follow-on-Public Offer (FPO) and the money has been planned to be returned back to the investors. This came a day after the FPO was scraped with the non-institutional investors including the HNIs and the family offices. Swiss lender Credit Suisse Group AG stopped accepting the bonds of the Adani Group of Companies for margin loans to its private banking clients. The personal net worth of Gautam Adani went down y 14 billion USD and it came down to 74.7 billion USD. He landed into the 15th place in the Forbes Billionaire's List. All the stocks of the Adani Group came down by 19.7 percent. "Given the unprecedented situation and the current market volatility, the company aims to protect the interest of its investing community by returning the FPO proceeds and withdrawing the completed transaction" told the official statement of AEL. "Today the market has been unprecedented and our stock price has fluctuated over the course of the day… Given these extraordinary circumstances, the company’s board felt that going ahead with the issue will not be morally correct. The interest of the investors is paramount and hence to insulate them from any potential financial losses, the board has decided not to go ahead with the FPO" told Chairman Gautam Adani.

New Income Tax Slabs Announced in Union Budget February 01, 2023 13:48

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Union Budget for 2023-24. The new Income Tax Slabs have been announced and the tax rebate limit has been increased to Rs 7 lakhs from Rs 5 lakhs. This would be a huge relief for the taxpayers across the country. The Finance Minister also announcedd that the average processing time for the income tax returns will be reduced from 93 days to 16 days. The Centre is also in plans to roll out the next generation common IT Returns Forms. The Indian government is also keen to strengthen the grieevance redressal mechanism very soon. The Indian government also came out with a proposal to reduce the high surcharge rate to 25 percent from 37 percent in the new tax regime. The tax payer who earns Rs 15 lakhs will have to pay Rs 1.5 lakhs as tax and this was Rs 1.87 lakhs in the past. This is reduced by Rs 37000. For a person with an annual income of Rs 9 lakhs, the tax would be Rs 45000. For an annual income of Rs 3-6 lakhs, there would be 5 percent tax. For all those who are earning more than Rs 15 lakhs, the tax would be 30 percent. Nirmala Sitharaman also introduced a small one-time savings scheme 'Mahila Samman Saving Certificate' and it will be available for two years. There would be a fixed interest rate of 7.5 percent per annum. Nirmala Sitharaman Tables Economic Survey in Parliament January 31, 2023 20:18

The country's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey for 2022-23 in the Parliament house. It is predicted that the country's economy will grow 6.5 percent in 2023-24 when compared to the 7 percent of the fiscal. The projection of retail inflation at 6.8 percent is Reserve Bank of India and it is neither so high nor so low. The retail inflation came below 6 percent in November after the upper tolerance level has been high for ten months last year. The Central Bank projected the inflation to average at 6.8 percent in the current fiscal year. "RBI has projected headline inflation at 6.8 per cent in FY23, which is outside its target range. At the same time it is not high enough to deter private consumption and also not so low as to weaken the inducement to invest," told the Survey. The Reserve Bank of India made it mandatory to keep the inflation at 4 percent with a cap of 2 percent. The retail and wholesale price inflation remained high for the most part of the year due to the supply chain disruptions. The war between Russia and Ukraine had an impact as both these countries are the important producers of essential agricultural commodities. The global economy may be characterized by low growth in the year 2024. The Economic Survey said that there should be a close monitoring of the current account deficit. The rate of growth in the imports has been quite faster when compared to the exports.
