Watermelon, a big, sweet, and very thirst-quenching fruit, is often called “the best buddy of summer. ” Its red, pink, or yellow inside is valued for its sweet, juicy, and crunchy flesh, which is typically enjoyed as a cool snack, added to fruit salads, or transformed into juice to refresh during hot, sticky days. This fruit is also praised for providing vitamins A and C, along with nutrients such as lycopene, which serves as an antioxidant. However, after enjoying the juicy insides, do you discard the tough, striped, solid green skin that has a thin white layer beneath? Nutritionist Lovneet Batra suggests that you shouldn't. She mentions that the rind is safe to eat and can be pickled. She notes, “Most individuals consume the red part and throw away the white rind. But that 'discarded' part is actually a hidden nutritional treasure. ”

In a video, she stated, “Stop tossing this part of the watermelon. It is actually more beneficial than the part that you consume,” adding, “The white section of the watermelon has Citrulline,” a potent amino acid first discovered in watermelon that changes to arginine in the body, which further creates nitric oxide.
