Believe it or not, the bronze memorial statue of Nelson Mandela has a rabbit in its ear. The 'trademark bunny' in the ear of Mandela's statue has left South African officials fuming with rage.

The 30ft sculpture of Nelson Mandela is said to be the largest statue of Mandela in the world. The bronze statue was unveiled after Mandela's funeral on December 16, 2013. The statue is located in Pretoria, outside the government complex. But to the great surprise of the South African officials the sculptors left a ‘signature’ on the bronze artwork. Mandela's statue has a sculpted rabbit discreetly planted inside one of the ears.

Officials from the department of arts and culture stated that they were not aware about the existence of a sculpted rabbit inside the ear of the South African leader. The rabbit, also in bronze is sitting on its haunches and has one floppy ear, is almost half the height of the ear canal.

The two sculptors, Ruhan Janse van Vuuren and Andre Prinsloo apparently decided to leave a discreet signature on the bronze memorial. And now there is a demand from the officials to remove the miniature rabbit from the statue, saying that it is a mockery of Mandela's life and the work he did.
