First ever photograph exhibition of Instagram is being held in India on Thursday. The exhibition will display the photos generated from the photo and video sharing app, which is a social media app owned by Facebook.

The theme of the exhibition is ’Celebrating Diversity of Bengal’, which will display the community generated Instagram posts at the ICCR gallery here. A combination of images would be exhibited in the community-centric photo, covering festivals of West Bengal besides images from the local Instagram community. The images would capture diversity of the state in people, food, landscape, wildlife, architecture, etc.

According to a company statement, “People today are finding their visual voice through the images we capture and share with others, each image telling a story about what we’re experiencing. Images are universal. They transcend language and cultural barriers.”

An inclination is being displayed by the Instagram community in India towards portraying cultural nuances using the power of mobile app. Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched as a free mobile app in October 2010. The service rapidly gained popularity with more than 300 million users as of December 2014.
