The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that temperatures will likely be above average across the majority of the nation, with the exception of southern regions of Peninsular India and certain areas in Northeast India, during the period from March to May this year. According to the meteorological organization, the southern sections of Peninsular India and some isolated areas in Northeast India are expected to see maximum temperatures that fall within the normal to below-normal range in the approaching months. Projections indicate that March 2025 will witness monthly maximum temperatures that are anticipated to exceed normal levels across much of India. For March of this year, it is expected that minimum temperatures will also be above the usual figures in most areas, apart from certain parts of Northwest India and the southern Peninsula, where temperatures are expected to remain around the norm.
As for the upcoming summer months from March to May, the IMD forecasts a higher-than-average occurrence of heatwave days throughout most of the country, with Northeast India, the extreme northern region, and southwestern and southern sections of Peninsular India being notable exceptions. In March, an increased number of heatwave days are projected for the majority of central India, as well as the adjacent northern regions of the South Peninsula, and various locales in northwest and east India. Additionally, the weather department conveyed that March 2025 is anticipated to bring normal rainfall levels, defined as being between 83-117% of long-period average (LPA). Parts of Peninsular India and the neighboring southern areas of central India are likely to receive above-normal rainfall, while the remaining regions of the country can expect rainfall amounts ranging from normal to below normal.
