NRI Family Constructs Memorial To Keep Their Roots Strong March 09, 2020 16:17

NRIs are often misunderstood thinking that they don’t pay attention to their roots. That is not always the case as an NRI family has decided to develop a memorial in their home village to keep their family name known. The same is going to have the name of their living and dead people from the family.Bahadur Singh, who is an UK based NRI has asked a villager named Lakhwinder Singh to get the process done on his behalf. Lakhwinder, who is an acquaintance of Bahadur stated saying that the ancestors of the NRI had left India a number of decades back.He further stated saying that he got the memorial constructed in 1966 memorial site on Raikot-Jagraon road. Further addressing this situation, Lakhwinder stated saying, “However, as new members have been added to the family, they are getting two more such structures built with 2020 written on top. The structures have names of around 70 persons from the family, most of whom are abroad. While the names of the dead are being painted in black, those of the living are in white. We have been getting the work done for the past one-and-a-half months and it will take us a few more days to complete.”He also said that they are planning on creating a parking around the memorial along with getting some of the necessary ornamental decoration around. The same is going to be done for the aesthetics as Bahadur Singh comes visit at times.Harkaran Singh, who is a relative of the family stated saying that majority of the family members stay abroad but do have a very strong bond to their roots.Another member of the family said that this memory will bring together the past and the present day scenario together.Sukhminder Singh, who is 65 years old and part of the family said that he was a bit skeptical with adding the name of the living people but later got along with it when it was said that it will have the name of his father too. The memorial is expected to be constructed across the land that they own. They have 7-8 acres of land around the memorial and 3-4 acres around the village.The memorial will come with three cemented structure with two additions of 2020. Kannada film distributor arrested over harassment allegations against NRI woman March 07, 2020 12:25

A Kannada film distributor has been accused and arrested over sexual harassment allegations by the Nandini Layout police. The film distributor is from Australia. The accused was charged by a NRI woman of blackmailing her for taking private videos. He has also taken 6 lakhs from the victim by blackmailing her.In an issued statement, a senior police officer stated saying, “The accused, Roopesh, was arrested on Friday after he followed the woman from Melbourne to Bengaluru and started harassing her here.”The NRI woman, after being tired with the constant harassment came forward to lodge the complaint with the police to take further stern actions against the issue. The police team later arrested Roopesh from a hotel near J.P. Park, Yeshwantpur.The charges of allegation against him are that of extortion and outraging the modesty of a woman.The DCP of the North Division, Shashi Kumar stated saying, “Roopesh is a film distributor for well-known Kannada and other South Indian language films in Melbourne. That is where he met the woman, who was living with her husband and children.”The two of them have been reported to have exchanged their numbers and later met in a restaurant where the victim’s drink was spiked by the accused. He then went on to take indecent and compromising videos of the victim and started blackmailing her with them.An officer further clarified saying, “In her statement, the woman said he started blackmailing her and demanding sexual favours. He threatened to post the videos on social media.”With fear etched in the beginning, the victim ended up paying the accused INR 6 lakhs to stop the blackmailing. For escaping the wrath, the victim stayed with her in-laws in Bengaluru but Roopesh ended up following her there as well. NRI Women safety wing to look into harassment cases March 03, 2020 17:17

The NRI Women Safety Wing which has been constituted by the State police in order to probe into the cases regarding the harassment of dowry and also the other cases which involve the NRI husbands has expedited the speed of the investigations and has also issued the Look- out Circulars (LOCs) and has also seized the passports of the persons who have been involved in the cases.It has been recorded that around 574 cases have been registered against the NRI husbands and also against their relatives across the State out of which 74 cases have been registered at the Women Safety Wing.It has been observed that nearly 417 cases have been registered at the seventeen women police stations in the State and that the highest number of cases have been booked at the Women police station, Central Crime Station (CCS) of the Hyderabad City Police which is said to be followed by the Women police station of Saroornagar which is said to be under Rachakonda police commissionerate limits.The NRI Women Safety Wing has been constituted on the 17th of the month of July in the year previous 2019 and has filed charge sheets ins several cases in order to ensure the speedy completion regarding the trial so that the NRI husbands and their families who are involved in the dowry harassment case and also the other cases would be punished.The officials have said that the Women Safety Wing has been set up after observing the delay in probing the cases against the NRIs and that the Wing has also been established in order to ensure coordination between the agencies of the Central government and the State government in order to deport the accused from the abroad.It has been said that the Woman Safety Wing would coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs and also the Consulate- Generals of the different countries and also with the National Commission for Women and the other departments of the State government in order to get the technical assistance for dealing with the cases that would be filed at the Women Safety Wing against the NRI husbands and their families who are accused for the dowry harassment case and also the other cases.It has been said that the Women Safety Wing has already issued the Look- out Circulars on around 46 Non- resident Indians while the Non- Bailable Warrants (NBW) have been issued on around 32 persons and the passports have been seized for half a dozen.The Women Safety Wing is said to be taking assistance of the Network of International Legal Activity and also the NGOs in order to ensure the proper guidance to the Investigating Officers.By Shrithika Kushangi

Punjab University Hostel fees likely to increase for NRI students February 26, 2020 18:14

An approval from the vice- chancellor is awaited by the committee which is constituted to take a decision regarding the fee structure as it likely seems that there would be an increase in the hostel fee for the Non-resident Indian (NRI) students or the students of the foreign nationals.The vice- chancellor is said to hold a meeting for discussing the matter of whether there should be an increase in the hostels fee for the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nations or not.Emmanuel Nahar who is from the dean student welfare (DSW) has said that meetings would be held in order to make a decision regarding the fee not being increased from many years in the past and it would be decided as soon as the Vice Chancellor gives a nod to the issue. It has also been said that decisions should also be made about reserving two rooms in each hostels for the students belonging to the category of Non-resident Indians so that the provision of good facilities to the foreign nationals would be made possible by the Punjab University.It has been observed that around 220 seats have been reserved in the Punjab University for the Non-resident Indian students.The Punjab University would be approached by the Non-resident Indians or the foreign nationals on scholarship from their countries under the schemes of self financing or the they would be sponsored by either a relative or an agency.Emmanuel Nahar has said that, in order to ensure that there is sufficient accommodation to the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nationals, there ought to be reservation of two rooms for the NRI students in every hostel as it has also been demanded by the PU from wing of the Non- resident Indians.“We are planning that PU can give 15 to 20 seats for the NRI students in the international hostel also,” said Nahar.Chetan Chauhan who is the president of the Punjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) has said that they have been raising the issue regarding the provision of the rooms for the students who come under the category of the Non- resident Indians as majority of them have been forced to take an accommodations outside the campus as there is no sufficient accommodations for them in the campus.He has added saying that doing so, would not only be safer for the students but it would also save the time that would be consumed for reaching their respective departments.By Shrithika Kushangi

Vivekananda Yoga University in the US to now Start PG Courses February 17, 2020 11:28

The Vivekananda Yoga University (VAYU) which is said to be the world’s first yoga university that is situated outside India which is in the United States. The officials of the university say that, along with the research in the ancient Indian practice the Vivekananda Yoga University (VAYU) is also said to start its post graduation course later during this year.The admissions for the courses in the university would be starting in the month of April, as said by the officials of the university on Saturday.The initial campus of the world’s first yoga university outside India has been established with a budget of around USD 5 million in Los Angeles.The university has stated that Sree Sreenath who is a professor from Case Western University has been named as the President of the Vivekananda Yoga University where as H R Nagendra who is the Indian yoga guru has been named as its chaiman.The university has also stated that the admissions for the post graduation course would get started in the month of April in this year and the programmes would get started from the month of August, 2020 which would be under the leadership of Sree Sreenath as the founding President.The official recognition has been received from the Bureau for Private Post secondary Education, California in order to offer a yoga- based higher education programmes in the month of November during the previous year following which the announcement has been made by the university.Collaborative research, credit transfers and joint programmes with several premier universities around the world would be facilitated by the Vivekananda Yoga University.This university is said to be aiming to provide man- making and nation- building education as it promotes the all- round personality development in the students. NRI Women Safety Cell in Telangana logs 70 petitions February 14, 2020 18:06

An NRI Cell of Women Safety Wing (WSW) has been inaugurated in the month of July in the last year and it has been recorded 70 complaints until now. Out of the 70 complaint that have been registered 29 cases are said to be under investigation where as 41 cases are at trial stage.Look out circulars have been executed against the NRI spouses in around five cases where as in six passports of NRI accused were impounded.A workshop for two days has been inaugurated at the NRI cell, on Thursday. The workshop has been inaugurated aiming at the capacity building in order to bring convergence among the investigating officers, public prosecutors and the victims. A voice over app has been launched by the TS IT Cell. It has also launched an information brochure on Services of TS NRI Cell.Swati Lakra who is the inspector general of police of the Women Safety Wing has said that standard operating procedures have to be followed during the investigation of the cases of the Non- resident Indians.The NRI Woman Safety cell has been inaugurated by M Mahendar Reddy who is the Telangana Director General of Police, in Telangana Women Safety Wing in Lakdikapool in Hyderabad.The NRI women safety cell has been inaugurated in order to provide the legal guidance by the support of NILA which is an NGO for the women who have been aggrieved in the NRI marriages.Swati Lakra has also said that the NRI women safety cell would guide the SHOs in the course of the investigation of the cases that are related to harassment of the NRIO spouses or the relatives. An Indian banker of a high profile in London has been suspended by the Citigroup after he was accused of stealing food from the office canteen.The trader Paras Shah who reportedly have been earning a handsome seven-digit salary in the British pounds was removed from his post after he had stolen food from the canteen at Citibank’s European headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.The income of Paras Shah is almost 9.2 crore per year when concerted to the Indian currency.According to the reports, Shah who is aged 31 years had been suspended from his job as the Citi’s head of high- yield bond trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as was accused of food theft in the office canteen.Shah had joined the Citigroup in 2017 and had been one of the highest- profile credit traders in Europe. An NRI woman served as a victim in the state’s biggest online frauds of Karnataka. The NRI woman who was 60- years- old has lost Rs 1.67 crore to the fraudsters as she had been convinced that she had won an online lottery of ten lakh pounds which is said to be around Rs 9.3 crore.She had been asked to wire the money and was also said that she should be paying legal notarisation for receiving the prize money that she had won in the lottery.The victim being an NRI woman named Ambujakshi Srinivas has said to had been received a call from an unknown man who has addressed himself as Brown and that he was an agent of a major manufacturer of electronics. He had also said that he was from London and had been residing in Delhi.The victim has been said that he mobile phone had won a lottery in the promotional raffle draw of the company. Identifying himself as an agent of the company, he said that the company organizes a raffle draw every year in order to alleviate the poverty and had said to the victim that she had won 10 lakh pounds in the same.The victim had been asked to pay Rs 79,900 for the legal notarization in order to receive the prize amount that she had won in the raffle draw lottery. Brown has then referred to several people who have started making calls and asked Ambujakshi Srinivas to pay money as deposits in order to get the prize money. The victim has been transferring the amount to various accounts which has ended up to be around Rs 1,67,42,400 that has been transferred to different accounts as she was asked to do so by different people who had been referred by Brown.The woman has realized that she had been a victim to the online fraud and had filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Division (CCD) of the Criminal Investigation Department and the police of the Cyber Crime Division have booked the accused under the IT Act for getting indulged in cheating and the efforts are being made in order to nab the fraudsters.It has been said by a senior official of the Cyber Crime Division that the fraudsters mainly target the senior citizens and the fake RBI receipts would also been provided by the fraudsters in order to make their victim believe in the procedure.This incident had been recognized as the biggest online fraud in the state until now.The victim has been identified as an NRI whose family has lived in Jamaica for about two decades and that both her husband and her son are doctors.By Shrithika Kushangi

An Indian- American Prem Parameswaran has been appointed by the President of the United States Donald Trump as a member of the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.The appointment has been done prior to the US President Donald Trump paying a visit to India which has scheduled to be between the 24th- 26th of February.Parameswaran is said to be the only Indian who has been selected in the commission that comprised of thirteen members. Prem Parameswaran is currently the president of Indian motion picture production and distribution company Eros International’s North America operations.The resignations has been submitted by ten members of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who are known as the AAPIs in the year 2017. 65 Year Old NRI Manhandled In Koomkalan January 29, 2020 12:22

In recent reports, a resident from the Kot Gangu Rai village in Koomkalan was booked for manhandling a 65-year old NRI in front of the village gurudwara because of a heated argument. According to the reports and complaints lodged by the victim, it suggested that the accused charged him when they were discussing on the use of loudspeakers based off of the Punjab and Haryana high court.The accused charged at the victim, 65 year old, Jagjit Singh who is based out of Germany at the moment. He has been consistently visiting his home town even after being settled outside of India. It was on January 27, 2020 that Singh visited the local gurudwara when the members of the gurudwara committee told him that the former sarpanch of the village has issued an illegal notice to the current sarpanch of the village for not abiding by the guidelines issued by the government surrounding the use of loud speakers between 10 pm to 6 am. Singh said that he was discussing on the matters with the rest of the villagers when the accused, Vishnu reached the spot. He initiated a heated argument and asked Singh to stay out of the matter because was an NRI. The accused then manhandled the 65 year old and even pulled on his beard, which hurt the religious sentiments of the accused. Head Constable Dilbagh Rai, who is the head investigating officer at the Koomkalan police station said that the complaint from the victim has been registered under the Section 295-A of the IPC. A Non Resident Indian (NRI) has been booked by the police for allegedly threatening a prime eyewitness Gurjant Singh Janta, in the murder case of Bhim Tank which has taken place near Abohar.The statement of Gurjant Singh Janta had lead to life imprisonment of Shiv Lal Doda who is a liquor baron and also to 24 others.The followers and the supporters of Doda has killed Bhim and has grievously injured Gurjant Singh Janta who is a friend of Bhim, at his farmhouse in Ramsara village near Abohar on December 11,2015. A complaint has been filed by Gurjant which stated that, Ankush Chalana, who is a kin of a member of the core committee which has been constituted by Doda when he has contested as an independent candidate in the assembly elections from the constituency of Abohar in 2017, has threatened him in a post on the social media platform. The post read, “Janta, tera time a gaya” which when translated to English states Janta, your time is up. Rahul Bhardwaj, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Abohar has been marked by the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Fazilka, for inquiring into the matter. Rahul Bhardwaj has ordered to register a case against Ankush, after the investigation of the matter has been done.The case has been filed against Ankush under Section 66 of the Information Technology(IT) Act, 2000, on Sunday.
