Oily skin can be a challenge. Here are a few tips to manage oily skin at home.

Say 'No' to soap

Soaps can damage your facial skin. Most soap has a pH of above 8, while the skin has a pH of 5.5. Prolonged use of soap will upset the natural acid balance of your skin. Maintaining the pH balance of your epidermis is important to prevent penetration of allergens, bacteria and irritants making skin sensitive. Choose a pH-balanced cleanser to maintain your healthy skin.

Wash face twice a day

Avoid over washing your face as it’s more damaging than beneficial. If you wash your face more than twice in a day it becomes drier. To maintain the oil balance, skin secretes more sebum making it greasier than before. So stick to washing face only twice in a day. And, to get rid of greasy skin use a sensitive cleansing wipe or plain water.

Cleansers with salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a great remedy for oily skin. It helps to remove clogged pores by washing off dirt and grease down to the hair follicle. It makes skin less greasy with fewer blackheads by reducing sebum secretion. Choose a cleanser that has 1-2 % salicylic acid to wash your face twice daily. Regular use of this cleanser will improve skin clarity.

Moisturise your skin

Skin needs to be moisturised even though it’s oily. Only when your skin is hydrated, the epidermal barrier stays strong. Use gels or gel emulsions to moisturise oily skin. Gels or gel emulsions mostly contain water and helps to hydrate skin without making them greasy.

The above steps should help to take care of oily skin. But if it doesn’t work then take the help of a dermatologist as the skin might have an underlying problem.
