Are you regularly finding more and more hair on your sinkhole and lesser and lesser on your scalp? Worry not! You don't really have to razor your skull now, a la Bruce Willis style, to evade the embarrassment.
Scientists have now found a cure for baldness, and a permanent one on top of that, which would help your hair grow back again, even after the follicles have died. Wonder how? Well, count on stem cell treatment.
Even though scientists have previously failed to create sufficient number of follicle-generating stem cells, good enough to regrow hair, seems they are closer to success this time around.
A team of scientists carried an experiment on mice and found that by carefully monitoring the timing of the growth of cells, it was possible to create large number of stem cells. The stem cells were later mixed with a type of mouse skin cell and grafted onto the skin of the immunodeficient mice. And guess what? The cells did grow a outer layer of human follicles found in human head.

Dr Xiaowei Xu, from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia said: ‘This is the first time anyone has made scalable amounts of epithelial stem cells that are capable of generating the epithelial component of hair follicles.’
But there is a glitch. While the scientists have successfully managed to regrow the cells that make up hair follicles, they are yet to find out a way to regrow human skin cells.
‘When a person loses hair, they lose both types of cells,’ said Dr Xu.
‘We have solved one major problem, the epithelial component of the hair follicle. We need to figure out a way to also make new dermal papillae cells, and no one has figured that part out yet.’
The treatment may not be a reality yet, but with extensive research, it's likely that the scientists will find a way to regrow human cells too in the near future.
