As the World Health Organization mulls over ways to free India from its biggest health threat of vector borne illnesses like dengue, malaria, chikungunya and elephantiasis on this World Health Day 2014 with its campaign - "Small bite, big threat", we ook into ways you too can rid your home of this menace called mosquitoes. Read away!

Neem oil: When it comes to dealing with pesky mosquitoes, no better way to fight them than an effective repellent. Neem can help keep this nuisance at bay. Just mix a portion of nee, oil with an equal portion of coconut oil and rub it down your body. Rest assured, mosquitoes won't hover your head for the next eight hours.

Eucalyptus and lemon oil: Another effective insect-repellent is lemon oil mixed with eucalyptus oil. This oil concoction contains active component cineole, which has both antiseptic and insect-repellent properties. Just dab some on your skin and enjoy a good night sleep.

Camphor: Camphor wards off mosquitoes like nothing else. Light camphor in a room and close all the doors and windows. Let it burn for fifteen to twenty minutes. Open the doors and windows and enjoy the coolness of evening breeze at home sans mosquitoes sucking up your peace and blood.

Plant trees: If you thought that having trees and shrubs could lead to more mosquitoes at home, you couldn't be more wrong. Having right kind of trees around, like tulsi, mint, marigold, lemon, neem and citronella will keep both mosquitoes and dreaded vector borne diseases off limits.
