Neeraj Chopra, hailed as India's athletics sensation, once again proved his prowess on the international stage by securing the Paris Diamond League title on Friday with an impressive first-round throw measuring 88.16 meters. The Olympic champion wasted no time asserting his presence, taking the lead right from his initial attempt. While he recorded no valid throws in three out of six attempts, Chopra’s opening mark remained unsurpassed in a tightly contested competition. Close behind him was Germany's Julian Weber, who captured second place with a throw of 87.88 meters, and Brazil's Mauricio Luiz da Silva, who took third with a throw of 86.62 meters. Chopra's remarkable first throw set the competition's tone. In round two, Weber reduced the gap with a distance of 86.20 meters, while Chopra responded with a strong 85.10 meters. Olympic medalist Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago achieved 81.66 meters, but the other contenders struggled to keep up with the Indian athlete's explosive opening.
During the third round, Da Silva entered the podium race with his best throw of 86.62 meters. However, none of the competitors managed to exceed Chopra’s leading mark of 88.16 meters. Despite Weber’s attempts of 83.13 meters, 84.50 meters, and 81.08 meters falling short, Chopra concluded his series with a secure throw of 82.89 meters after a few fouls. This victory cements Neeraj Chopra’s reputation as a formidable force in athletics, allowing him to enter the next segment of his season on a successful note. Fans can anticipate his upcoming appearance at the Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 5, an event commemorating him, which was initially set for May 24 but had been delayed due to rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border.
