Apple launched the iOS 26.4 update for iPhone on Tuesday. This is the highly awaited fourth major version of the newest iPhone software, which was initially introduced by the company in September. The update introduces a number of new features, such as Playlist Playground and full-screen backgrounds within Apple Music, compatibility with AirPods Max 2, and eight fresh emojis. However, the iPhone update does not incorporate the much-anticipated Apple Intelligence features, including an upgraded version of Siri.

Apple Music has experienced a notable enhancement with the iOS 26.4 update. As stated in the release notes, one of the main features is Playlist Playground. Apple indicates that this feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create playlists based on user requests. Users can explain their moods, events, or themes, and it can produce personalized playlists complete with titles and descriptions. This feature is currently still in beta testing. The update also introduces a Concerts discovery function designed to help users find local live performances by artists they listen to and suggest new artists based on their listening patterns. Additionally, Apple Music now includes Offline Music Recognition through the Control Centre, allowing users to identify songs without needing an internet connection and view the results after going online.

A new Ambient Music widget has been introduced, featuring curated playlists for Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing directly on the Home Screen. The company has also added full-screen backgrounds for Album and playlist pages, providing a more engaging experience in Apple Music. Besides the Apple Music app, users will now see eight new emojis on their iPhones. These emojis include an orca, a trombone, a ballet dancer, a landslide, and a distorted face. Regarding accessibility, the tech giant has introduced a Reduce Bright Effects option to lessen flashes during use. There are also improved controls for subtitles and captions, making them easier to access and adjust. Apple claims it has enhanced the Reduce Motion setting to better control animations related to their Liquid Glass interface. Other updates include new tools in Freeform for creating and editing images, the capability to mark reminders as urgent, and better filtering options in Smart Lists. Additionally, Apple has improved keyboard accuracy, especially while typing quickly, as part of the overall system enhancements included in this update.
