Gone are the days when you had to saddle cumbersome musical instruments like accordion or huge bass drum to your body. Thanks to technology, now you have a slimline gadget that allows you to clip in musical sensors to your clothing. Yes, you heard that right! DrumPants, as this fully wearable and customizable on-the-go musical instrument set is known as, is the latest breakthrough in realms of musical technology that will turn you into a human musical kit. Whoa!
Tyler Freeman, the Californian co-founder and inventor has developed a musical dress called 'DrumPants' that comes with wearable, easily concealed sensor sticks attached to a control box. One can choose up to 100 different sounds including that of piano and harmonica by controlling these sensors.
Not just that, users can also add their own sounds, like tapping of shoes or animal purrs and hoots, to their music.
What more, you can plug in headphones to the detachable music sensors or clip in external speakers as well for additional stage effect.
The San Francisco-based firm’s basic DrumPants kit offers two wearable strips including six sensors, but extra strips can be added. The thin and flexible sensor sticks respond to human touch and can be attached to any piece of clothing using ‘ultra-thin Velcro stickies’.
‘Just stick them inside your clothes and easily swap the drum pad strips between outfits,’ the company said.
And the last and the best part, the notes and noises created by DrumPants can be sent to any app that supports MIDI or OSC. Not just that, the device can also be connected to a computer via USB.
Now isn't that just amazing!
