It would be causing intense horror to hear that a British bird-watcher was crushed to death by an elephant near a southern Indian tiger reserve he had been visiting for years. The incident was exposed by his guide and police during Friday.

It was further known from the area police chief T. Senthil Kumar who told AFP by telephone that the 68-year-old tourist was critically injured by a charging tusker in the Masinagudi forest of Tamil Nadu state's Nilgiris district on Thursday and was declared dead in hospital. The district police chief identified the victim as Mr Colin Manvell from the town of Havant in southern Britain. It was known from the guide that Mr Manvell reached India on Sept 13 and met up accompanying his local guide M. Kumar on Wednesday in Masinagudi village.

That's really unfortunate!
