The fact that caused intense surprise was fog in addition to pollution that lead downward on northern China on Sunday. The dangerous impact of which have been powerfully threatening the international golf and tennis players to play in deadly smoke and leading to flight cancellations and road closures as millions of Chinese headed home from a national holiday. On Beijing's biggest weekend of the year for sports so far, spectators at the China Open tennis tournament and an inaugural ladies golf tournament pulled their shirts up over their faces and used masks and handkerchief intending to avoid the unhealthy air.

In fact, this had an impact even at the Reignwood LPGA Classic which happens to be the first Ladies Professional Golf Association event organized in China, tee times were delayed to allow some of the smoke to disperse, but some players, including Germany's Sandra Gal, still donned masks. Similar situation occurred in another part of the city, spectators were also not easy in manner on the final day of the China Open, where the world's No. 1 and 2 men's tennis players, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, were playing each other on Sunday afternoon, accompanied in the evening by Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic in the ladies final.
