BJP government has just doled out it's first gift for the Independence Day.

Bringing much needed relief to the aam junta, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declared that petrol prices will dip by Rs 1.89-2.38 from midnight of August 14/15.

This slash in petrol rates, never mind how miniscule, is likely to spread a gush of cheer among the people. Also, given that this is the second reduction in rates this month, this news calls for a double joy for now.

The UPA government had freed petrol rates in 2010 and since then there has been a steep spike in its rates. For diesel, the government had decided to eliminate the subsidy in stage through monthly increase of 50 paise per liter.
