Only Halal Birthday Cakes allowed in Singapore Mc’Donalds

The World’s fastest fast food chain's Singapore Mc’Donalds confirmed that they will only allow halal birthday cakes in its premises.

After the recent announcement by McDonald's Malaysia that birthday cakes brought to their outlets by customers must be from halal-certified sources.

Faz Hussen, is the director of government relations and communications of McDonald's Singapore, he told of the news that the rule was implemented way back in 1992, when all McDonald’s restaurants in Singapore received halal certification from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).

Hussen said, “As the Singapore Mc’Donalds is a halal-certified restaurant, we need to adhere strictly to MUIS regulations and ensure that the food we are serving is Halal and suitable for consumption for our Muslim friends."

"This also includes the regulations on preparing our food, storing our ingredients, and ensuring that the food which we are serve is not mixed with any non-halal food.”

The rule of Halal Birthday cake is being communicated to the customers and the following information is available on the website, he added.

A quick check on the Singapore McDonald’s website, will show that the stipulation on halal birthday cakes is under the Frequently Asked Questions section.

The fast food giant also said that they do provide birthday cakes as part of birthday party packages offered to make it more convenient for their customers.

McDonald's does not allow customers to consume outside food in its outlets, but they make an exception for birthday cakes.

Mc’Donalds does not allow outside food to be kept in their storage facilities due to food safety reasons, it said.
