MP Virendra Sharma urged PM May to break silence on Immigration ban

A senior MP of the British parliament on 30th Jan (Monday) wrote to the PM Theresa May to renounce the United States President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration ban on 7 Muslim majority countries.

Indian-origin Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing Southall in London, describe the US President executive order as “racist” and urged PM May to break her silence on the issue.

MP Sharma said that he wants to raise the strongest possible terms on deafening silence as Prime Minister and the whole of Her Majesty's Government on President Trump's immoral, racist and truly un-American immigration policy."

He also said: "While he understands the need to remain on good terms with the US President, he does not think that it goes with their reputation around the globe any good to be seen as silent accomplices.

MP Sharma knows there has been some clarification from the Government on the United Kingdom citizens visiting the United States, but he stated blanket travel ban is a shameful act.

He hopes that PM May will use her greatly visible position on the world stage to emphatically renounce the newest round of offensive behavior by President Trump."

The 69-year-old MP said the executive order to ban entry to the United States for nationals of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen was "racist" and threatens the American ideals of "liberty, opportunity and equality".
