Denver police arrested second suspect in Denver light rail station shooting

Denver police arrested the second suspect involved in a shooting at the RTD light station on Friday.

According to the Denver police Department Nathan Valdez 19-year-old is being held for investigation of first degree murder.

Valdez is the main suspect in the death and robbery of Tim Cruz 32. The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday night the light rail station at West 12th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

19-year-old Ever Valles was earlier arrested this week as a suspect in the case. He is being held at the Denver jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

According to an arrest affidavit, Valles has said to the Denver police that Valdez fatally shot Cruz.

The affidavit also stated that after killing Cruz, Valdez shot him, telling him that he saw too much.

Soon after the shooting, Denver police released images of the two suspects captured by the nearby surveillance camera outside the light station.

The footage showed both the suspects wearing a black face mask and the other one wearing a face mask appeared to be the lower half of a skull. Both of them were wearing black caps and had backpacks with them.

A person on Wednesday who has requested his identity not be revealed told to investigators that he was with the suspects earlier in the week, he noticed same masks and backpacks.

The person also helped the investigators to find the Facebook page of Valles and he also was able to identify in the Department of Correction photography.

During investigation Valles admitted his participation in the robbery and he also told investigators that he was the suspect in the black mask.

“Valles stated that as they were fleeing away, Nathan stopped and pointed the gun at him saying, ‘You saw too much,’” the affidavit said. “According to Valles, he pleaded for Nathan not to shoot him and then turned to run.”

Valdez fired a shot, according to the affidavit, striking Valles in the left hip.
