The suspect man, who is being accused of murdering his parents and abducting his 11-year-old niece in North Carolina has been arrested in the Washington D.C. on Sunday night after a brief chase near the capital’s monuments and memorials.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a press conference that 11-year-old girl, Arieyana Forney was found with the accused, who is identified as 37-year-old Curtis Atkinson Jr.
An Amber Alert was issued for Arieyana in Charlotte, North Carolina, as soon after her grandparents were found dead inside their home on Sunday afternoon.
Atkinson is being suspected in the murder of the victims, who were his parents. Atkinson is the girl’s uncle, police said.
Washington police flooded the area near the memorials after getting a report from a person, who reported about a kidnapping, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Police also recovered the suspect’s vehicle, a 2005 white Chevy Impala with North Carolina number plates.
There was a short chase down, before the suspect’s vehicle crashed into another car on Independence Avenue SW near the Washington’s Memorial, police said. Along with Atkinson and the girl, a woman was in the car.
Captain David Sledge of Metropolitan Police Department said that the girl was taken to a nearby hospital, but appears to be ok.
