An Indian-origin student from New York was found lifeless at his residence on Friday, following which his father Narsing Rao sent the distress signal to families in India, asking to haste to the United States to support and assist them in a rough state.

Sai, 21, was living with his parents in New York over two decades. It is alleged he committed suicide. The father's appeal, which was tweeted to Minister for Information Technology K. T. Rama Rao by a family friend set off a sequence of swift responses.

The Minister instantly responded requesting the Regional Passport Officer, Hyderabad to effort in order to issue a passport for a relative, apart from entreating the U.S. Consulate General to assist the distraught family in receiving an emergency visa to be present for the funeral.

Consul General Katherine J Hadda responded by saying the family would be given an emergency appointment in the Consulate to proceed with the travel requirements. This was followed by the Regional Passport Officer, Hyderabad's response, tweeting to KTR saying that the RPO had contacted the family and guided them regarding required documents.

"All efforts will be made to issue the passport on Monday by 11 am by the Regional Passport Office," the RPO tweeted.

Rao’s nephew Kiran Kumar, who is a resident of Hyderabad said his brother Shankar Rao received a call from the U.S. around 6 a.m. on Saturday notifying the suicide of Sai and asking him to reach them at the earliest since Rao had serious medical issues and required help to go ahead with the final rites.

"We know only that it was a suicide. We have not got further details,"  Kumar told a media source.

Shankar Rao said he would be receiving the passport and will leaving to the U.S. at the earliest.
