New Study Says Covid Antibodies Found in Mother's Milk

A recent small study said that the antibodies are found in the mother's breast milk to fight Covid-19. The mothers may be caught with coronavirus or received the coronavirus vaccine dose. The study was conducted on 77 mothers at the University of Rochester, New York in USA. The study said that the mother's milk of those who are tested with coronavirus contained more of one type of antibody named IgA and the mothers who took the dose of coronavirus vaccine contained higher levels of the antibody IgG which is common in most of them. But the study told that it is not clear if the antibody could protect the babies from Covid-19 and about the time that the antibodies would last for.

The researchers told that the antibodies are part of the immune response. Professor Richard Tedder, a member of the UK Clinical Virology Network released a statement to the Science Media Center about the latest research done saying that it was useful. The researchers measured the antibodies to test the blood rather than the mother's milk. There is no clarity if the method can detect the antibodies. The virus was not detected in the milk sample as per the study that was published in JAMA Pediatrics recently.

This study is one of the first to compare the antibodies of the breast milk after the vaccination or infection of coronavirus. The study also revealed about how the antibody levels change over the time in the labs. 47 health workers are recruited who are due to get the vaccine and 30 people are taken who took the vaccine for coronavirus. They are recruited before the Detla variant was common in most of the countries. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention asked the government to get pregnant women to get vaccinated on a priority basis considering the higher risk of the complications of coronavirus.
