The CBI made a request to the Delhi court on Friday, seeking custody of K Kavitha, a leader of BRS, in relation to the Delhi liquor policy case. According to the agency, their investigation revealed that Kavitha played a role in a conspiracy to collect a Rs 100 crore kickback from a liquor baron. They alleged that a businessman from the south met with Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, at his office and sought his support. Kejriwal assured the businessman that Kavitha would contact him, and in return, requested funds. The CBI also stated that Kavitha, after contacting the businessman, arranged a meeting in Hyderabad, referring to the person's previous meeting with the Delhi Chief Minister and mentioning Vijay Nair, another accused in the case and the former media coordinator of AAP.
He was requested to contribute 50 crore rupees. The CBI also claimed that one of the defendants, Vijay Nair, received kickbacks worth at least 100 crore rupees from a group known as South Group (controlled by Sarath Reddy, Kavitha, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy) on behalf of AAP leaders. Meanwhile, the court has not yet made a decision on the CBI's request for a five-day custody of BRS, who is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Kavitha, who is already in Tihar Jail following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy case, was arrested by the CBI on Thursday. The CBI, which recently questioned Kavitha in jail, told the court that she was uncooperative in the investigation and provided evasive responses. Her lawyer, opposing the CBI's request, considered the arrest to be unlawful and accused the investigating agency of violating Kavitha's basic rights.
