Uttarakhand Cloudburst: 33 Dead, 700 stranded

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are seeing severe rains in the states, where nearly 33 people have lost their lives. On Wednesday night the route of Rudraprayag was completely damaged. Police have started rescue operations, where they have already rescued 737 people through helicopters by working throughout the day and shifted 2670 into relief forces at Sonprayag on Thursday. SDRF, NDRF, DDRF, District Police and Administration teams are working selflessly. DGP, Abhinav Kumar provided information about the rescue operations and the relief camps. He asked the people of the state and the travelers to follow the instructions as the state was seeing cloud bursts. Because of the heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Kedarnath Yatra has been suspended for two days. 12 NDRF and 60 SDRF teams are working in this area in rescue operations. Speaking to the media, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar said that the Meteorological Department has warned about the next 48 hours of rain. In the view of heavy rain, they alerted the police and the rescue teams.

There are also landslides, rock falls, and various regions. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Tehri and Rudraprayag and met the affected people. He also conducted a ground inspection of the rain-affected areas. In Uttarakhand, 11 people died and 8 were severely injured in various districts. 800 people were stranded at the Kedarnath trek route and 1000 were stranded at Kedarnath. The Trek route remains blocked by the boulders at Ghoraparav, Badi Lincholi, Lincholi, and Bhimbali. Coming to Himachal Pradesh, the Manali-Chandigarh National Highway has been damaged in several places. The Indian army has established a control center at Jhakri. Nearly 20 houses have been washed away in the rainwater. Rescue operations are being interrupted by the heavy flow of the Satluj River.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh is also planning to visit the affected areas. He said that their current motive is only to save as many people as they can. Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut also addressed the issue. She said she would meet the affected people and assured them that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister would provide more relief funds. She is also planning to ask different ministers and request help. The Union Home Minister also communicated with the state chief minister and said that the central will provide possible assistance for the safety of the people of the state and the devotees.
