A monorail train in Mumbai had a breakdown this evening while it was raining heavily, leaving almost 100 people stuck for over an hour. The monorail, which operates on an elevated track, experienced a small power supply problem, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). "Our teams for operations and maintenance are already at the location and are working to fix it swiftly," it added.

Various images showed frightened passengers attempting to open the train windows before the fire brigade arrived to help. The train stopped around 6:15 pm, situated between Chembur and Bhakti Park. "In this emergency, passengers quickly called the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's helpline number 1916 for help," stated the civic agency, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

"The Mumbai Fire Brigade responded quickly and reached the scene, starting rescue efforts with three snorkel vehicles," it mentioned. This incident occurred while the city has been experiencing rain for two days, disrupting daily life. The heavy rainfall caused streets to flood, leaving commuters and vehicles stuck on the waterlogged roads. This situation emphasized the yearly struggle of the financial capital in handling the monsoon rains. "Mumbai has recorded nearly 300 mm of rainfall. The suburban trains, which are vital for the city, have slowed down. The Mithi river (which flows through Mumbai) reached a dangerous level, and 400 to 500 individuals had to be moved to safety," remarked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after the weekly cabinet meeting. On Monday, the city got 170 mm of rain in merely 8 hours.
