Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the advanced Navi Mumbai International Airport this afternoon. This new airport is predicted to enhance trade and tourism for Mumbai, Pune, and the Konkan region. Before the official opening, Prime Minister Modi took a tour of the airport. "The wait is finally done," stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a message on X. "This airport is going to change air travel, promote Maharashtra's development, and link India to the world like never before," he continued. Constructed at a cost of Rs 19,650 crore, the airport is anticipated to accommodate 20 million passengers annually. It will not only make travel easier but also give industries in Pune direct access to international markets. This airport has been developed through a partnership between Mumbai International Airport Ltd, which is a part of Adani Airports Holdings Ltd, and CIDCO, which stands for City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. Before the inauguration, Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, commended everyone's joint efforts on this project. In response to a post on X by Jeet Adani, who is the Director of Airports at the Adani Group and his youngest son, Gautam Adani noted, "To everyone who helped and cared, this is your work."

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, mentioned on X that the airport will "lift Maharashtra to new levels." He explained that the project will bring major advantages to Pune, Mumbai, and Konkan by connecting them directly to global markets. As the largest Greenfield airport project in the country, with a runway of 3,700 meters, it will operate alongside Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. This will be the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, helping to reduce congestion and placing Mumbai among cities with multiple airports like London, Tokyo, and New York. Airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have already declared their intent to start flights, with initial services to various domestic locations. Once it is fully operational, the airport will cater to 90 million passengers and handle more than 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.
