On Tuesday afternoon, a terrible incident occurred when a private bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur in Rajasthan caught fire, leading to the tragic deaths of twenty individuals, according to the police. The authorities mentioned that the bus had 57 people on board and left Jaisalmer at about 3 pm. While on the highway from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, smoke started coming from the back of the bus. The driver parked the bus on the side of the road, but in just a few moments, fire took over the entire vehicle. Local people and those passing by quickly came to help with the rescue. Emergency services and police were notified. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire likely started due to a short circuit, as per police reports. In a cruel twist, the bus was reportedly bought only five days prior. Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma reached Jaisalmer late on Tuesday night, and officials from his office indicated that he inspected the bus that was damaged in the incident.

Fifteen passengers, including four women and two kids, suffered severe burn injuries, with some having as much as 70 percent of their bodies burned. They were initially taken to Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer in three ambulances and were later sent to Jodhpur for better treatment. The Jaisalmer district authorities stated that they quickly started rescue and relief efforts after being informed of the incident. District Collector Pratap Singh instructed officials to provide immediate medical assistance to those injured. Helpline numbers were also provided. A special emergency route was established on National Highway 125 to assist with the urgent transfer, with police escorting eight ambulances. The District Collector verified that the bus was entirely burned, and many victims were unrecognizable. DNA and forensic teams from Jodhpur have come to help with identification. "We will confirm the identities of the deceased through DNA testing, similar to the process used in the Ahmedabad plane crash. Only then will the bodies be given to their families," the Collector stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives. "I am saddened by the tragic loss of lives in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the families and those affected during this challenging time. I am praying for the quick recovery of the injured," as stated by PM Modi in a post on X by the PMO. "An amount of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the family of each deceased. Those injured will receive Rs 50,000," he added.
