Thick fog blanketed areas of Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, December 31, reducing visibility and causing disturbances in air travel throughout the area. These weather issues resulted in delays and potential flight cancellations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading officials and airlines to provide notices to travelers. The weather bureau issued a red alert for Delhi because of the heavy fog, lasting until 10 a.m. The Delhi Airport shared a notice for travelers indicating that due to the ongoing dense fog, flight operations were being handled under CAT III protocols. The airport cautioned that this might lead to delays or cancellations. It informed that ground staff were on-site and actively assisting passengers to facilitate smoother travel. Travelers were urged to reach out to their airlines for the most current updates on flights. IndiGo also released several advisories to keep travelers informed about the situation. The airline stated that foggy weather was affecting Delhi and multiple airports in northern India. It warned that if low visibility persisted, flight departures and arrivals might be impacted as the day went on. IndiGo mentioned that it was carefully monitoring the situation and adjusting operations as necessary to ensure trips went as smoothly as possible.

The airline suggested that travelers confirm their flight status before heading to the airport. It also warned that fog could impact road travel and recommended allowing extra time to reach the airport. IndiGo indicated that any changes to flights would be communicated through registered contact information and its online platforms. In another update, IndiGo reported that Delhi and Hindon Airport remained shrouded in chilly winter air and persistent fog. It observed that changing visibility had already caused alterations in flight schedules and that operations might be slower than usual as conditions evolved. The airline stated that its ground staff were prioritizing safety and adhering to visibility regulations. Air India similarly cautioned about possible disruptions due to predictions of thick fog and low visibility in Delhi and northern India. The airline anticipated that flight schedules could be affected, causing potential delays throughout its network. Air India mentioned that it was continuously tracking the situation and had implemented measures to lessen inconvenience for passengers.

These steps included the planned cancellation of some morning flights that were most susceptible to fog issues. Passengers were notified ahead of time to avoid lengthy and uncertain waits at airports. Air India assured that its airport teams would remain on hand to help travelers in the event of delays, diversions, or cancellations.
