RSS did not assassinate Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi tells Supreme Court! August 24, 2016 17:54
The Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi may be cleared of defamation charges after he backtracked in the Supreme Court and said he never meant to accuse the whole of the RSS of assassinating Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi. Following the Rahul recanting, the defamation case against the Congress vice president may just be dropped. The RSS activist who filed the criminal defamation case had offered to withdraw the case against Rahul if he absolved the RSS of the assassination. The Congress vice president's counsel, Kapil Sibal, said that, "Rahul Gandhi never accused the RSS as (an) institution for the crime." "Rahul never blamed the RSS but blamed a person associated with the RSS," the court said it inferred from Rahul's affdavit. Rahul had made these accusations during a Thane rally in March 2014. "RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk of him. They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji," Rahul had said then. "Why did you make a sweeping statement against the RSS branding everyone associated with the organization in the same brush. You can't make wholesale denunciation of an organization," the SC bench said while hearing the defamation case. Also Read: Rajnath heads to 'Mission Kashmir'! Nandini

Reiterated Kannada actress and Congress member Ramya says "I respectfully disagree, but Pakistan is not hell." The comments came after the news broke that a lawyer has filed a complaint against her in court, asking a case of sedition be filed against her. Ramya explained that, "I don't have any ego at all and in any given incident, I would have apologized, but if I do in this case, the larger cause we're fighting for would go." The Kannada actress first indicated she thinks Pakistan may not quite be hell, when she recently addressed a women's rally in Mandya, Karnataka. The Times of India reported, "It's really sad that there is such a situation in the country today. Politicians want to polarise and spread hatred. Just because borders separate us we shouldn't hate others" Ramya said, referring to the complaint filed against her. Ramya, a former Mandya MP from Karnataka's Mandya constituency said that, "I'm free to express myself, am I not? Everyone is entitled to their views and that is what democracy is about. You can't force your ideology on anyone." "It's freedom of speech, it's also our duty to speak on inclusiveness and peace. Curbing freedoms is wrong in democracy," Ramya added. "I went there (Pakistan) for the SAARC Youth Summit. I spoke about peace, harmony and unity in diversity. When I got back, I was asked how Pakistan was and I said that the people there are just like us, and that we were treated very well. There was a lot of respect," Ramya said. "I don't think I'm wrong. I also love Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Of course I won't leave India, it's my home and I am not going to leave my dogs," she said. Also Read: Pakistani Spy caught along with 35 Kg RDX Nandini
