Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, enjoying the success of his recent hit Dhurandhar, has officially stepped away from Farhan Akhtar's Don 3, as per sources. This update follows reports indicating that he began preparations for the film. Don 3's director, Farhan Akhtar, planned to begin filming the eagerly awaited project in January. Ranveer Singh was seen at the Mumbai airport on Monday night alongside his wife, actress Deepika Padukone, both dressed in black, reportedly departing the country to celebrate the New Year. Back in 2023, Ranveer Singh was introduced as the new Don, which sparked considerable criticism on social media. His casting as the new Don was described as the start of a "new era," following the release of the first look of him in the iconic role by production company Excel Entertainment.
Ranveer Singh was expected to take over the role from superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed Don in Farhan Akhtar's 2006 film Don and its 2011 sequel Don 2. The movies also included actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The franchise began when Excel Entertainment acquired the rights to the 1978 film of the same name, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and was written by the renowned duo Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. After Dhurandhar broke box office records, Ranveer Singh reflected on concepts of destiny and patience, referencing a line from R Madhavan's character in the action-packed movie Dhurandhar. He shared on his Instagram Stories, "Destiny has a lovely tendency to change when the right moment arrives... But for now... Stay alert and be patient." Dhurandhar, featuring Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi has become the top-grossing Hindi film of the year, earning Rs 619.30 crore.
