The yearly toll pass for national highways is going to cost more because the Ministry of Road Transport plans to raise the FASTag annual pass fees by 2.5%. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will start charging these higher prices beginning on April 1st. After this increase, private vehicle owners will have to pay Rs 3,075 instead of the previous cost of Rs 3,000 for their pass. With the FASTag, drivers can go through 200 toll booths across the country without stopping. The new price will be effective for the financial year 2026-27. The FASTag pass is meant for personal or non-commercial vehicles that have a working FASTag installed. According to the Road Transport Ministry, when FASTag was first introduced, the annual pass included a rule for yearly price reviews. This increase in annual fees is part of that review process. The 2.5% rise follows the same method used to adjust highway toll fees in the country.
In June of last year, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadhkari, mentioned that the pass would be valid for one year from when it is activated or until 200 trips are made, whichever happens first. This rule still applies with the new annual fee of Rs 3,075. If 200 toll crossings happen before the one-year mark, the pass will expire at that time. During that announcement, the Highway Minister posted on X about a "FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at Rs 3,000, starting from August 15, 2025. " He also noted that a special link for activation and renewal would soon be available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as the official NHAI and MoRTH websites.
Earlier this year, the NHAI altered the FASTag pass rules. Beginning February 1, 2026, the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process will no longer be necessary for new FASTags, aiming to help with problems of verification after activation that private vehicle owners have experienced.
