Two decades after Disney's animated  blockbuster "The Lion King" stormed the big screens and raked in a whopping $987 million at the ticket windows, the classic is all set to shake up the small-screens now, albeit as a tele-serial.

Yeah, you got that right! The Lion is coming back in a new show titled as “the Lion Guard” in Disney Junior. The telepic sequel series will be a follow-up on Kion,  the second-born of Simba and wife Nala and will storm in your TV sets on 2015.

Aimed mainly at the pre-schoolers, the sequel will star Kion as the leader of the Lion Guard - a group of the brightest and the bravest - and how he goes on to safeguard his Pride Lands together with the mainstays of the show - Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Simba, Nala, Rafiki, Zazu and his sister Kiara. Not just that, the audience will also be treated to other favorites like honey badger Bunga, cheetah Fuli, hippo Beshte and egret Ono.

The voice cast is yet to be announced.

Released in 1994, “The Lion King” bagged the Oscars for original song (Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and music (for Hans Zimmer's score). It's Grammy-winning soundtrack sold more than 15 million units.

The Broadway theatrical adaptation of the same cinched a Tony for best musical and is in its 17th year on the Great White Way, with 10 productions in eight languages running worldwide. Apparently, it's the highest-grossing Broadway production in history. This year marks the films' 20th anniversary.
