A 76-year-old great granny has taken to shop-lifting as she is bored of being old. The great grandmother has been shoplifting for the last four years.
June Humphreys has been availing of free bus pass for commuting into and town. She has been removing goods from the stores and hiding them in her shopping cart before sneaking out without making payment.
Inspite of going through treatment for breast cancer and osteoarthritis, she would carry on with her act across two counties. Humphreys comes from Crewe, Cheshire, and is a mother of seven children.
She was convicted for shoplifting in 2011, 2012, 2013 and recently in January 2014. This time she pleaded guilty for theft of baby clothes from BHS worth £69, confectionery worth £2 from Iceland, a breast pump from Boots and baby clothes from B&M.
Humphreys knows that what she does is is wrong, but pleads that she gets bored. The 76-year-old granny lives alone as she has contact with only one of her child, who lives above her, said Probation officer Darren Vernon to North Staffordshire magistrates.
The great granny was sentenced to one month in jail that has been suspended for a year with warning of a prison term if she offends again.
