NRI Women safety wing to look into harassment cases March 03, 2020 17:17
The NRI Women Safety Wing which has been constituted by the State police in order to probe into the cases regarding the harassment of dowry and also the other cases which involve the NRI husbands has expedited the speed of the investigations and has also issued the Look- out Circulars (LOCs) and has also seized the passports of the persons who have been involved in the cases.It has been recorded that around 574 cases have been registered against the NRI husbands and also against their relatives across the State out of which 74 cases have been registered at the Women Safety Wing.It has been observed that nearly 417 cases have been registered at the seventeen women police stations in the State and that the highest number of cases have been booked at the Women police station, Central Crime Station (CCS) of the Hyderabad City Police which is said to be followed by the Women police station of Saroornagar which is said to be under Rachakonda police commissionerate limits.The NRI Women Safety Wing has been constituted on the 17th of the month of July in the year previous 2019 and has filed charge sheets ins several cases in order to ensure the speedy completion regarding the trial so that the NRI husbands and their families who are involved in the dowry harassment case and also the other cases would be punished.The officials have said that the Women Safety Wing has been set up after observing the delay in probing the cases against the NRIs and that the Wing has also been established in order to ensure coordination between the agencies of the Central government and the State government in order to deport the accused from the abroad.It has been said that the Woman Safety Wing would coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs and also the Consulate- Generals of the different countries and also with the National Commission for Women and the other departments of the State government in order to get the technical assistance for dealing with the cases that would be filed at the Women Safety Wing against the NRI husbands and their families who are accused for the dowry harassment case and also the other cases.It has been said that the Women Safety Wing has already issued the Look- out Circulars on around 46 Non- resident Indians while the Non- Bailable Warrants (NBW) have been issued on around 32 persons and the passports have been seized for half a dozen.The Women Safety Wing is said to be taking assistance of the Network of International Legal Activity and also the NGOs in order to ensure the proper guidance to the Investigating Officers.By Shrithika Kushangi

Two persons which includes an NRI of 34 years old are being suspected to be infected with swine flu after both the patients have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus in a private laboratory in the city.The samples of both the patients have been collected and sent to a government laboratory in Lucknow by the health department for further confirmation on Monday.According to the officials, the 34- year old NRI who is a native of Bareilly and who is living in Australia has visited his hometown during last week. It has been said that the 34 year old NRI has visited a private hospital as he was feeling unwell where he has been tested and the samples have been sent to a private laboratory for the tests results and the tests have shown being positive for the H1N1 virus.In a similar way, another man has also been diagnosed as being infected by the H1N1 virus at the OPD of a city- based private hospital where the tests have been conducted and the samples have been sent to the same laboratory which showed the results being positive for the swine flu virus.Dr Meesam Abbas who is the district epidemiologist has said that the samples of both the patients who have shown positive as being infected by the H1N1 virus have come from the same laboratory and that the chief medical officer has not been notified about the cases by the laboratory. He has added saying that the samples of both the patents have been collected and the samples have been sent to a laboratory at the King George’s Medical University which is situated in Lucknow. The district epidemiologist, Dr Meesam Abbas has said that the reports are expected to arrive on Tuesday and that no case of Swine flu has been confirmed in the district of Bareilly so far.By Shrithika Kushangi

The NRI cell which has been set up in the state of Telangana in the previous year has registered cases in 70 of the 73 complaints against the Non- resident Indian husbands and their families.The NRI cell has been set up by the women safety wing of the Telangana state police in the month of July in the previous year 2019. it has been established as a nodal agency for monitoring the cases where the Non- resident Indians are the accused and since the establishment of the NRI cell, it has received 73 petitions and around 70 cases have been registered based on them. Out of the 70 cases, it has been noted that 29 of the 70 cases are under investigation and 41 pending trial. The look out circulars have been issued against 46 offenders and the non- bailable warrants have been made against 32 and also the passports have been seized of six offenders.According to the police, around 574 cases have been registered against the NRIs at various police stations in the state of Telangana and that out of the 574 cases that have been registered, 417 have been registered at around 17 women police stations. It has also been noted that the look out notices have been issued against the 577 offenders and that the maximum number of cases have been registered against the Non- resident Indians in the state and the cases have been registered in the CCS women police station which were around 137 in number which is said to be followed by Saroornagar women police station where in the number of cases were 78.By Shrithika Kushangi

An approval from the vice- chancellor is awaited by the committee which is constituted to take a decision regarding the fee structure as it likely seems that there would be an increase in the hostel fee for the Non-resident Indian (NRI) students or the students of the foreign nationals.The vice- chancellor is said to hold a meeting for discussing the matter of whether there should be an increase in the hostels fee for the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nations or not.Emmanuel Nahar who is from the dean student welfare (DSW) has said that meetings would be held in order to make a decision regarding the fee not being increased from many years in the past and it would be decided as soon as the Vice Chancellor gives a nod to the issue. It has also been said that decisions should also be made about reserving two rooms in each hostels for the students belonging to the category of Non-resident Indians so that the provision of good facilities to the foreign nationals would be made possible by the Punjab University.It has been observed that around 220 seats have been reserved in the Punjab University for the Non-resident Indian students.The Punjab University would be approached by the Non-resident Indians or the foreign nationals on scholarship from their countries under the schemes of self financing or the they would be sponsored by either a relative or an agency.Emmanuel Nahar has said that, in order to ensure that there is sufficient accommodation to the Non- resident Indians or the foreign nationals, there ought to be reservation of two rooms for the NRI students in every hostel as it has also been demanded by the PU from wing of the Non- resident Indians.“We are planning that PU can give 15 to 20 seats for the NRI students in the international hostel also,” said Nahar.Chetan Chauhan who is the president of the Punjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) has said that they have been raising the issue regarding the provision of the rooms for the students who come under the category of the Non- resident Indians as majority of them have been forced to take an accommodations outside the campus as there is no sufficient accommodations for them in the campus.He has added saying that doing so, would not only be safer for the students but it would also save the time that would be consumed for reaching their respective departments.By Shrithika Kushangi

The Tokyo police has detained an Indian Air Force officer who had been undergoing a year- long service course in Japan following a complaint that has been filed earlier this month by a woman.According to the source in Tokyo the Indian Air Force officer who is the wing commander from a non- flying branch has been taken into custody on the 6th of February. The wife of the IAF officer has approached the court for bail on the 8th of February for which she had been ordered to deposit Rs 22 lakh as surety.It has been said by the senior sources in the ministry of the external affairs that the affair is being handled by the Indian embassies in Tokyo. It has also been said that the complaint that has been filed against an Indian officer is being treated as a serious issue by the government.However, the current effort is to complete the formalities in Japan so that the officer can be brought to his native country India for the matter to be investigated and the action has to be taken. The source has also said that the complete information is not known and efforts are being made for getting the details regarding the case, as said by A Bharat Bhushan Babu who is the ADG of media and communication of the ministry of defence.It has been confirmed by the Indian Air Force which is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces that the police of Tokyo has detained although they did not have much information regarding the matter. The officials of the university say that, along with the research in the ancient Indian practice the Vivekananda Yoga University (VAYU) is also said to start its post graduation course later during this year.The admissions for the courses in the university would be starting in the month of April, as said by the officials of the university on Saturday.The initial campus of the world’s first yoga university outside India has been established with a budget of around USD 5 million in Los Angeles.The university has stated that Sree Sreenath who is a professor from Case Western University has been named as the President of the Vivekananda Yoga University where as H R Nagendra who is the Indian yoga guru has been named as its chaiman.The university has also stated that the admissions for the post graduation course would get started in the month of April in this year and the programmes would get started from the month of August, 2020 which would be under the leadership of Sree Sreenath as the founding President.The official recognition has been received from the Bureau for Private Post secondary Education, California in order to offer a yoga- based higher education programmes in the month of November during the previous year following which the announcement has been made by the university.Collaborative research, credit transfers and joint programmes with several premier universities around the world would be facilitated by the Vivekananda Yoga University.This university is said to be aiming to provide man- making and nation- building education as it promotes the all- round personality development in the students. An NRI Cell of Women Safety Wing (WSW) has been inaugurated in the month of July in the last year and it has been recorded 70 complaints until now. Out of the 70 complaint that have been registered 29 cases are said to be under investigation where as 41 cases are at trial stage.Look out circulars have been executed against the NRI spouses in around five cases where as in six passports of NRI accused were impounded.A workshop for two days has been inaugurated at the NRI cell, on Thursday. The workshop has been inaugurated aiming at the capacity building in order to bring convergence among the investigating officers, public prosecutors and the victims. It has also launched an information brochure on Services of TS NRI Cell.Swati Lakra who is the inspector general of police of the Women Safety Wing has said that standard operating procedures have to be followed during the investigation of the cases of the Non- resident Indians.The NRI Woman Safety cell has been inaugurated by M Mahendar Reddy who is the Telangana Director General of Police, in Telangana Women Safety Wing in Lakdikapool in Hyderabad.The NRI women safety cell has been inaugurated in order to provide the legal guidance by the support of NILA which is an NGO for the women who have been aggrieved in the NRI marriages.Swati Lakra has also said that the NRI women safety cell would guide the SHOs in the course of the investigation of the cases that are related to harassment of the NRIO spouses or the relatives. A Non- resident Indian had died in a crash by a speeding bus near Verka milk plant on Ferozepur road on Thursday in the morning.The deceased has been identified as a Canada- based NRI Meena Sharma of the 23 years of age from the Sector 32 of the Chandigarh road. She has been identified as a second year student of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) and the family of the deceased lives in the Surrey of Canada.The police officials have said that Meena was living in the GADVASU hostel across the Sidhwan canal towards the Ferozpur road for the last one and half years while she has been pursuing her degree.The police had added saying that Meena Sharma had left her hostel at 9 in the morning on Thursday on her scooty towards the college which is located on the other side of the bridge. It has been said that her classmates were in tow on separate vehicles.The crash has occurred near a restaurant on the Ferozepur road when a speeding bus has come from the Mullanpur side and has hit her scooty from behind. With the attack that has been happened from behind, Meena Sharma fell on the road with serious injuries observing which the on lookers had gathered at the spot where the accident had taken place. The victim, Meena Sharma was not wearing a helmet when the crash has taken place.Meena sharma had been rushed to a private hospital by the onlookers where the doctors had declared that she has been brought dead.After the incident, the driver has fled the spot, leaving the vehicle at the accident spot and the vehicle was later seized by the police.The family of the victim Meena Sharma is settled in Canada which comprises of her father Arun Sharma who is a veterinary doctor, her mother, an elder sister and a younger brother.Mamta Sharma who is the aunt of Meena Sharma has said that her parents have been informed and are expected to reach the city in a day or two. Aamrjit Kumar who is the assistant sub- inspector and who is investigating the case has said that an FIR has been filed against the unidentified driver of the bus who had hit Meena from behind and had fled the spot, under the Sections 279 for rash driving and 304 A for causing death due to negligence of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following the complaint made by Varinder Sharma who is Meena’s uncle.By Shrithika Kushangi

An Indian banker of a high profile in London has been suspended by the Citigroup after he was accused of stealing food from the office canteen.The trader Paras Shah who reportedly have been earning a handsome seven-digit salary in the British pounds was removed from his post after he had stolen food from the canteen at Citibank’s European headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.The income of Paras Shah is almost 9.2 crore per year when concerted to the Indian currency.According to the reports, Shah who is aged 31 years had been suspended from his job as the Citi’s head of high- yield bond trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as was accused of food theft in the office canteen.Shah had joined the Citigroup in 2017 and had been one of the highest- profile credit traders in Europe.
