NRIs are taking active part in the Delhi Campaign, extending their support to AAP February 06, 2020 14:58

A large number of NRIs are taking part in campaign for the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. Hundreds of NRIs have flown into the city of Delhi and are taking part in campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party and are providing their support for the Assembly polls which are scheduled to be on 8th of February.Prithvi Reddy who is the Convenor AAP Overseas has said that nearly 500 NRIs have come to India in order to be a part in the campaigning of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi in order to seek votes for the party. He added saying that the NRIs are managing the volunteers and are doing all kinds of tasks as they are extending their support to the AAP.He said that although some NRIs have come to Delhi in recent times, several NRIs have come to India and are residing in Delhi for the past two to three months and are supporting the Aam Aadmi Party.Prithvi Reddy says that the support from the NRIs has started as they see Aam Aadmi Party as a ray pf hope for making the country India against corruption. He says that people tend to go to other nations as they get to experience better opportunities and better living standards. However, they would be treated as second- grade citizens in the foreign countries and therefore the NRIs would like to come back to their native country.The NRIs believe that Aam Aadmi Party would lead the country towards development and therefore the NRIs could come back to India and lead a happy life enjoying the same living standards that they had experienced in the abroad countries.Reddy has mentioned that about 20 per cent of the election funding has come from the supporters of the overseas, from the stat of the Aam Aadmi Party. He mentioned the overseas supporters as being from Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, UAE as few among several others.He has added saying that all the NRIs wish to return to their native country India but due to the lack of opportunities, they are not able to do so and are staying abroad.AAP Canada convener Jaskirat Kaur has also expressed that the NRIs wished to see the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal to become the Prime Minister one day.Preeti Menon who is the co- convener AAP Overseas has said that the Non- resident Indians have been dreaming to see their native country India as a developed country like the countries that they have been living in.The polls in the national capital Delhi is scheduled on 8th of February.By Shrithika Kushangi

An NRI woman served as a victim in the state’s biggest online frauds of Karnataka. The NRI woman who was 60- years- old has lost Rs 1.67 crore to the fraudsters as she had been convinced that she had won an online lottery of ten lakh pounds which is said to be around Rs 9.3 crore.She had been asked to wire the money and was also said that she should be paying legal notarisation for receiving the prize money that she had won in the lottery.The victim being an NRI woman named Ambujakshi Srinivas has said to had been received a call from an unknown man who has addressed himself as Brown and that he was an agent of a major manufacturer of electronics. He had also said that he was from London and had been residing in Delhi.The victim has been said that he mobile phone had won a lottery in the promotional raffle draw of the company. Identifying himself as an agent of the company, he said that the company organizes a raffle draw every year in order to alleviate the poverty and had said to the victim that she had won 10 lakh pounds in the same.The victim had been asked to pay Rs 79,900 for the legal notarization in order to receive the prize amount that she had won in the raffle draw lottery. Brown has then referred to several people who have started making calls and asked Ambujakshi Srinivas to pay money as deposits in order to get the prize money. The victim has been transferring the amount to various accounts which has ended up to be around Rs 1,67,42,400 that has been transferred to different accounts as she was asked to do so by different people who had been referred by Brown.The woman has realized that she had been a victim to the online fraud and had filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Division (CCD) of the Criminal Investigation Department and the police of the Cyber Crime Division have booked the accused under the IT Act for getting indulged in cheating and the efforts are being made in order to nab the fraudsters.It has been said by a senior official of the Cyber Crime Division that the fraudsters mainly target the senior citizens and the fake RBI receipts would also been provided by the fraudsters in order to make their victim believe in the procedure.This incident had been recognized as the biggest online fraud in the state until now.The victim has been identified as an NRI whose family has lived in Jamaica for about two decades and that both her husband and her son are doctors.By Shrithika Kushangi

An Indian- American Prem Parameswaran has been appointed by the President of the United States Donald Trump as a member of the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.The appointment has been done prior to the US President Donald Trump paying a visit to India which has scheduled to be between the 24th- 26th of February.Parameswaran is said to be the only Indian who has been selected in the commission that comprised of thirteen members. Prem Parameswaran is currently the president of Indian motion picture production and distribution company Eros International’s North America operations.The resignations has been submitted by ten members of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who are known as the AAPIs in the year 2017. The move had been taken as they had stated their objection to the portrayal that has been made by Donald Trump as he had portrayed the immigrants, refugees, people of color and people of various faiths as untrustworthy, threatening and a drain on the nation.Parameswaran has said in a statement that being an Indian- American from New York and the son of Indian immigrants who had come to the country as students, he feels overwhelmed and honoured by being appointed as the member of the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.He added saying that he looks forward in working with co- chairman Elaine Chao, secretary of transportation, as well as the fellow members of the President’s Advisory Commission in order to improve the health, education and economic status of AAPI.Paremeswaran has earlier worked with the Jefferies Group and was the head of media and telecom for the Americans.He was born, brought up and based in New York and has joined Eros International in the year 2015 and has been experienced in various fields which include global telecommunications, media and investment banking.Prem Prameswaran has been graduated from the Columbia University and has also received an MBA from the Columbia Business School.By Shrithika Kushangi

The real estate industry veteran Sandeep Mathrani has been named as the new chief executive officer of the softbank- backed sharing firm WeWork.Mr Sandeep Mathrani is said to join the as the chief executive officer to the company from the 18th of February and will be reporting to Marcelo Claure, who is said to be remaining as the executive chairman of the company, as said by the company in a statement.WeWork has said that Sandeep Mathrani will be succeeding Sebastian Gunningham and Artie Minson who are the co-CEOs of Mr Mathrani.The company has added saying that Mr Gunningham and Mr Minson will be remaining in the company for atleast through a transition period in order to ensure a smooth onboarding process.No external executive search firm has been involved in the search for the CEO and was handled by the WeWork. An Indian- American business man has died after he has struggled with a body that has been half burnt from the White Island volcano eruption in New Zealand.Pratap Singh who is also known as Paul has been suffering from the burns that were caused from the volcanic eruption that has taken place in New Zealand last year. It is said that he had suffered with 55 per cent burns in the eruption of the volcano that had taken place on 9th of December 2019 and has been transferred from Whakatane Hospital on 10th of December to the Critical Care Unit in the Middlemore Hospital where in he struggled and had fought really hard to live throughout his surgeries and treatments but had later died this weekPratap Singh along with his wife, Mayuri were visiting White Island from a cruise ship when the eruption of volcano had taken place on the 9th of December in the previous year. The death toll that has been caused from the eruption has been increasing and has currently risen to the count being 21 and has severely burnt dozens of people.Pratap Singh has been known for his philanthropy and was said to be the president of Sewa USA’s Atlanta chapter. The nonprofit had said that Pratap Singh was one of the donors who would donate in huge amounts to the Sponsor a child program and had added saying that a lot of local support has been provided to the program under the tenure of Pratap Singh.Mayuri Singh who is also known as Mary and is the spouse of Pratap Singh had burns on 70 per cent of her body that has been caused due to the eruption of the volcano in the White Island. In recent reports, a resident from the Kot Gangu Rai village in Koomkalan was booked for manhandling a 65-year old NRI in front of the village gurudwara because of a heated argument. According to the reports and complaints lodged by the victim, it suggested that the accused charged him when they were discussing on the use of loudspeakers based off of the Punjab and Haryana high court.The accused charged at the victim, 65 year old, Jagjit Singh who is based out of Germany at the moment. He has been consistently visiting his home town even after being settled outside of India. It was on January 27, 2020 that Singh visited the local gurudwara when the members of the gurudwara committee told him that the former sarpanch of the village has issued an illegal notice to the current sarpanch of the village for not abiding by the guidelines issued by the government surrounding the use of loud speakers between 10 pm to 6 am. Singh said that he was discussing on the matters with the rest of the villagers when the accused, Vishnu reached the spot. He initiated a heated argument and asked Singh to stay out of the matter because was an NRI. The accused then manhandled the 65 year old and even pulled on his beard, which hurt the religious sentiments of the accused. Head Constable Dilbagh Rai, who is the head investigating officer at the Koomkalan police station said that the complaint from the victim has been registered under the Section 295-A of the IPC. A con has been booked for allegedly posing as a land owner in order to claim a prime property in the city. The accused is said to be a resident of sector 10 A in Gurugram while the original owner of the land is said to be a Non Resident Indian who lives in London.Rajesh Yadav and few other unknown persons have been booked as they were trying to con Vikram Bahl who is an NRI living in London. A complaint has been filed against Yadav saying that he has tried to pose as Bahl before the officials of HSVP in order to claim the plot.The attempts made by Rajesh Yadav has been foiled as the reals owner of the plot has been found who was identified as an NRI living in London. This has resulted in the court- ordered Special Investigation Team which will be investigating the case and will now probe if HSVP officials were involved in the con.The case has been registered under the sections 419, 467, 468, 471 and 120 B of Indian Penal Code at Sector 14 police station.It has been found out that a RTI application has been filed earlier by Yadav by using his original identity in order to get the details of the plot in Sector 43. once he has collected the details, he has posed as the owner of the land Vikram Bahl who is an NRI living in London.Rajesh Yadav has approached the High Court seeking an alternative plot claiming that the size of the land that has been allotted by HSVP was different from what the original owner of the plot has applied for. The act has come into light when an e-mail has been sent to Bahl asking for explaining his grievance in person.Vikram Bahl has who was residing in London has informed the High Court and HSVP that no petition has been filed by him. He has also requested the HSVP to cancel the cheque of excess payment after he has received a notice from the High Court.Bahl has been refunded with Rs 68.69 lakh which has been the total of Rs 23.80 lakh and 7% interest per annum and the cheque has been withheld by the HSVP.The bench of Punjab and Haryana High court has been comprised of Justice Rajan Gupta and Justice Karamjit Singh in its order on January 16. the police has been directed to register an FIR and a detailed investigation has been ordered.Subhash Boken who is a police spokesperson has said that the economic offence wing has been investigating the matter and a case has been registered on the direction of the court.The police have been asked to file a report regarding the status by 27th of February.By Shrithika Kushangi
