Unless you are "immune" to hangovers or cope well with excess booze, it's likely that you would want to clear the alcohol off your system to escape the the throbbing head, dehydration, nausea and exhaustion the next day after a festive night.

If you are looking for cures to party hangovers, remember that prevention is better than cure.

Avoid spritzers since these bubbly drinks is known to intoxicate faster than flat drinks. But then darker drinks like red wine or brandy since they are likely to make your head throb worse than gin. So choose your poison with care!

No matter what, avoid guzzling drinks in empty stomach. That way you are less likely to get drunk quickly. Food impedes the pace at which alcohol mixes into blood stream. Stuffing in some mashed potatoes, generously whipped with large dollops of butter or several spoons of olive oil will fortify your system against the quick whip of drinks.

If you really intend to get high, ensure that you guzzle some beer before wine. After all, someone has rightly said: ‘Beer before wine and you’ll feel fine, but wine before beer and you’ll feel queer.’ That is because beer has more water than other drinks. Drinking beer ahead of a stormy drinking session would keep you hydrated for long.

Tempting as it may be to nurse a sore head with a Bloody Mary, experts say this only delays the onset of hangover symptoms. ‘If you drink more alcohol, you may not notice the hangover so much, as alcohol has a sedative effect and may distract you from the pain,’ says Dr Jarvis. Painkillers may help — but you should exercise caution.

Lastly, down a glass of milk before you hit the sack for the night. Milk won't just hydrate, but also prevent migraine, up your blood sugar, counteract acidity and even make less urine.
