Same time to bed, same time to rise can keep you healthy, sharp and in shape. Brigham Young University researchers have found that those with the most consistent sleeping habits have nearly 6% less body fat than those with the most erratic habits. That is not to say that you will have to follow the plan to the minute - a one-hour window is fine. Also try to achieve 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours of shut-eye. Here what you can do to correct your poor sleep patterns.

  • Too much coffee throughout the day can kill sleep, blame it on caffeine that causes sleep hormone melatonin to drop. If you love your java, try to have it in the morning hours than late.
  • Spending too much time on your iPad, laptop or mobile phones or over bright light can hold back melatonin production, making it difficult for you to fall asleep. Solution, say tata to your tech toys post dinner to enjoy a goodnight sleep.
  • Boozing too much before bedtime regularly can disrupt sleep pattern. Have it in the evening or at suppertime, if you need.
