If you thought that 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil was grand, the Under-17 World Cup India is likely to be grander. Besides All India Football Federation, FIFA has earmarked around USD 38 million for the marquee to stage the game in 2017.

A top AIFF official, who had attended the FIFA Congress in Sao Paulo before the World Cup, trevealed that FIFA top brass President Sepp Blatter is serious about helping India in its attempt to host a successful, world-class event three years down the line.

"For the U-17 World Cup in 2017, FIFA officials have told us that they have kept around USD 38 million for organisational purpose only," AIFF vice-president Subhas Chpora said.

Chopra was accompanied by treasurer Hardev Jadeja and executive committee member Ankur Dutta during the two days congregation. The federation's President Praful Patel gave it a skip.

"Blatter is very committed to helping India stage a successful tournament and we are getting a lot of support form the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also in this regard," he added.

India cinched the deal beating Ireland, South Africa, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to win the bid.

FIFA settled for the deal after UPA government guaranteed to comply with all the strict norms laid down by football association.

Recently, a two-member delegation from FIFA toured the eight prospective venues in the country, including the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Margao. Apparent, Goa has expressed its willingness to stage the grand final of the tournament.

AIFF bagging the bid is seen as a historic development for Indian football, with players welcoming the big opportunity with open arms.
