Dipa Karmakar Wins Gold in Gymnastics World Cup

India's leading gymnast Dipa Karmakar recurring to action after an elongated lay-off of closely two years due to injury, secured the gold medal in the vault event of Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey yesterday.

The 24-year-old acrobat hailing from Tripura, who had accomplished fourth in the vault event at the 2016 Rio Olympics, recorded 14.150 to triumph gold on Sunday. She had outdone the prerequisite too with a score of 13.400.

This is Karmakar's opening medal in a World Challenge Cup.

Karmakar's instructor Bisheshwar Nandi, has likewise qualified in balance beam finals by finishing third in the qualification with a score of 11.850.

Karmakar had agonized an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury after the Rio Olympics and had undergone surgical treatment. She was at first poised of making a comeback at the Commonwealth Games but therapy took added period than predicted subsequently missing the Gold Coast event.

She has been comprised in the 10-member Indian gymnastics team for the imminent Asian Games.
