Apple is rumored to be starting its 2026 hardware release with the iPhone 17e. Although the tech company from Cupertino has not officially announced the phone yet, there are speculations about its possible features. A well-known journalist has mentioned that the new model will include three main improvements, such as a stronger processor and a new networking chip. In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman discussed the iPhone 17e and the expected upgrades. According to this journalist, Apple will focus on two main areas for marketing the phone, aiming strongly in terms of hardware and software—emerging markets and businesses. It is said that the iPhone 17e will use the A19 chip, which also powers the standard iPhone 17, claiming to deliver up to 40 percent faster CPU speed than its predecessor. This Apple silicon features a 16-core Neural Engine, which the company says enables efficient AI processing, enhanced memory performance, and better overall functioning.
Aside from a stronger processor, Apple might also introduce its newest modem to enhance the cellular and wireless aspects of the iPhone 17e. The journalist suggests that the C1X modem could be included in the upcoming ‘e’ model. This new modem was first seen with the iPhone Air in September 2025. According to Apple's statements, the C1X modem could provide twice the network speeds while being more efficient than the C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e. Another significant improvement expected for the iPhone 17e is in its wireless charging capabilities. Apple might add MagSafe charging to this model, potentially allowing for faster wireless charging. For reference, the iPhone 16e had wireless charging but only supported the Qi standard at around 7.5W. With MagSafe, the iPhone 17e could handle charging speeds up to 25W, which would put it in line with the other Apple devices.
However, the design and pricing are likely to stay the same. Gurman noted that the starting price for the iPhone 17e will remain at $599 (approximately Rs. 54,000) for the basic model, but it is still unclear if Apple will increase the basic storage to 256GB, as they did for the standard iPhone 17 in September 2025. Most sources indicate that February 19 (Monday) will be the probable launch date for the iPhone 17e, exactly one year after the release of the iPhone 16e. Yet, Apple has not officially confirmed these details.
