It's been good five days since Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) promised Delhites 700liters of free water. However, it's been six days now that the inhabitants of the swanky Asiad Village haven't received a drop of water from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

Cruel it may be, but AAP's acclamation of free water seems to have caused the taps of South Delhi's posh neighborhoods to run dry, blame it on the impious nexus between private tanker operators and debauched Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials.

Asiad Village residents have affirmed that their water woes have retrogressed in past six days.

"It has never been so bad. We got water after six days," said Ajay Agnihotri, a former Central Board of Excise and Customs commissioner.

When questioned if he thinks water supply has been sidetracked following the announcement of 20 kilolitres of free water, Agnihotri used the Latin term 'pari passu', which translates as hand-in-hand.

"I thought it was the DJB chaps trying to sabotage the new government. But if I get 700 litres of water free, I would be willing to use way much less, expecting it to be free."

Expressing concern, AAP media coordinator Deepak Bajpai said: "Wherever we get such complaints, our minister as well as MLAs address the problem. In these areas, DJB officials in collusion with private tankers are artificially creating problem. We are looking into it."

The DJB-tanker nexus isn't just a legend, but a reality, wherein corrupt DJB officials take a cut from the earnings of the private tanker mafia. Considering national capital's size and the gargantuan need of water, the nexus is a big money-churner. How will Kejriwal deal with the water mafia manufactured crisis is something the whole of Delhi is waiting to see.
