Rahul Gandhi while taking a dig on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said that 'BJP thinks one man can run the country'. The Congress vice president was speaking to farmers in Haryana today when he made the swipe on Modi.
Gandhi was addressing to a crowd of almost 400 farmers in Haryana's Sonepat district, along with Jairam Ramesh, the Rural Development Minister, who acted as his moderator.
The 43-year-old Congress leader stated that politics implies giving options to the people and not orders, which can be attributed to the BJP. Rahul also stresses that a farmer's land cannot be acquired without obtaining permission of the panchayat or the village council.
Gandhi, who was address the farmer's gathering at Gannaur, said that the saffron party believes in centralized power. While the Congress believes in empowering the masses, especially farmers. Gannaur is about below two-hour drive from Uttar Pradesh's Bhatta Parsaul, where Gandhi in 2011 had joined the farmers protesting against land acquisition.
While reiterating the policies of the Congress-led UPA government towards farmers and rural areas, Rahul charged the BJP of trying to usurp Congress policies. He accused BJP leaders like Atal Behari Vajpayee, LK Advani of mocking computers. The same party, through Pramod Mahajan, went on to claim credit for introducing computers.
The Congress leader even said that after few years the party will claim Food Security Act and MNREGA (rural jobs scheme) to be their work.
Gandhi was on a roll at Gannaur taking swipes at Modi and the BJP liberally.
